Position Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Casual Merchandiser for its South Coast store in Margate. This part-time position is ideal for candidates seeking hands-on retail experience, merchandising skills, and customer engagement.

The successful candidate will ensure that all merchandise is properly stocked, displayed, and maintained according to Dis-Chem standards, while providing excellent in-store customer service.


Key Responsibilities

Merchandising & Stock Management

  • Restock merchandise to ensure maximum product availability and sales
  • Ensure stock from storerooms is correctly stored, unpacked, and displayed
  • Monitor and remove expired or damaged products
  • Facilitate FIFO (First-In, First-Out) stock rotation

Store Presentation & Displays

  • Maintain clean, organised, and visually appealing store shelves
  • Ensure correct labelling, pricing, and compliance with planograms
  • Build and maintain merchandising displays effectively

Inventory & Administrative Support

  • Assist with stocktaking and inventory counts
  • Report low stock, out-of-stock items, or discrepancies to management
  • Assist with loading and off-loading of deliveries
  • Ensure items without barcodes are clearly marked

Customer Service

  • Provide friendly, courteous, and professional assistance to all customers
  • Address and follow up on customer stock queries efficiently

Compliance & Operations

  • Adhere to Dis-Chem policies, SOPs, and health & safety regulations
  • Ensure proper uniform and badge are worn at all times
  • Handle merchandise carefully to minimise losses

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric Certificate
  • Up to 6 months retail experience
  • Computer literate (MS Office)
  • Willing and able to work retail hours

Advantageous Skills

  • At least 1 year retail experience
  • Bilingual communication skills
  • Knowledge of FMCG merchandising standards
  • Ability to analyse ZMORE or similar retail reports
  • Understanding of product categories and store layout
