Position Overview
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Dispensary Support staff member for its Three Rivers store in Vereeniging. This fixed-term contract is designed for learners aiming to complete the learner basic pharmacist assistant course. Employment becomes permanent once learners register with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as basic pharmacist assistants.
Key Responsibilities
Pharmacy & Dispensing Support
- Assist in the sale of Schedule 1 medicines under direct supervision
- Support compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines following SOPs
- Accurately pick, pack, label, and check medications under pharmacist supervision
- Ensure all medications are verified and signed off by a pharmacist
Stock & Inventory Management
- Receive, unpack, and organise dispensary stock
- Maintain cleanliness and proper arrangement of dispensary and OTC shelves
- Monitor stock expiry and levels, reporting low or out-of-stock items
- Assist in chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication scheme authorizations
Customer & Patient Service
- Follow up with patients regarding script tracking reports and appointments
- Handle patient service calls and provide accurate health information
- Promote quality on-the-job learning while assisting the dispensary team
Compliance & Administration
- Adhere to Dis-Chem SOPs and pharmaceutical regulations
- Maintain documentation, basic computer tasks, and confidentiality standards
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate with at least 50% in Pure Mathematics, Life Science, or Physical Science
- Completion of a proficiency test for SAPC learner basic pharmacist assistant registration
- Proficiency in English and a second language (reading, writing, speaking)
Advantageous Skills
- Retail or Dis-Chem front shop experience
- Knowledge of drug, family planning, and complementary medicine
- Familiarity with Unisolv, SAP, or e-Scripting systems
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
