About the Role

The Cosmetic Consultant at Dis-Chem Amberfield is the frontline ambassador for the store’s cosmetics, fragrance, and beauty category — responsible for promoting and selling products through genuine customer engagement, live demonstrations, makeovers, spray promotions, and brand-specific events. In this role, you will provide a high level of personalised customer care and service, manage all cosmetics and beauty house promotions, oversee salon appointment management, keep up to date with product knowledge and industry trends, and maximise store income by achieving department, brand, and vendor sales targets.

The Cosmetic Consultant also carries stock management responsibilities — monitoring stock levels, reporting on short, damaged, and expired stock, ensuring correct stock rotation, and maintaining attractive and brand-compliant merchandising displays throughout the cosmetics department. Key Responsibilities of a Cosmetic Consultant

Customer Service & Complaint Management

• Provide a consistently high level of customer care and service across all cosmetics, fragrance, and beauty interactions, ensuring every customer receives attentive, knowledgeable, and personalised assistance.
• Escalate serious and unresolved customer complaints to the manager promptly and accurately, providing all relevant context to enable effective resolution.
• Build genuine, lasting customer relationships through consistent, professional, and friendly engagement that encourages repeat visits and brand loyalty within the cosmetics department.

Product Demonstrations & Promotions

• Demonstrate products through makeovers, cosmetics demonstrations, spray promotions, and brand-specific activities — applying strong product knowledge and hands-on application skills to drive customer trial and purchase.
• Manage all cosmetics, fragrance, and beauty house promotions within the department, coordinating promotional activities, collateral, and stock to ensure every brand event is executed to the required standard.
• Keep consistently up to date with products, brands, and the broader retail beauty industry, ensuring that product knowledge and demonstration capability remain current and competitive at all times.

Sales Maximisation & Target Achievement

• Maximise store income by actively working toward and achieving department, brand, and vendor sales targets as set by management.

• Ensure that merchandising and displays are set up attractively and in accordance with Dis-Chem and brand guidelines, maintaining a visually compelling and well-organised cosmetics department at all times.
• Manage stock levels according to Dis-Chem procedures, reporting on short, damaged, and expired stock to management promptly and accurately.
• Ensure correct stock rotation is maintained at all times, applying FIFO principles to minimise losses from expired or deteriorated product.
• Identify, segregate, and report all expired and damaged stock to management immediately upon identification.

Salon Appointment Management & Operational Compliance

• Manage salon appointments within the cosmetics department, ensuring scheduling is accurate, customers are confirmed and attended to on time, and the appointment process reflects Dis-Chem’s service standards.
• Work according to a task schedule, managing time and responsibilities effectively to ensure all daily operational requirements of the cosmetics department are met.
• Adhere to all Dis-Chem policies and procedures, SOPs, and health and safety rules and regulations applicable to the cosmetics department.
• Contribute positively to a team environment, supporting colleagues and working cooperatively toward shared department and store goals.

Minimum Requirements – Cosmetic Consultant

Educational Qualifications:

• Grade 12 / Matric (essential)

Experience:

• Retail experience as a sales consultant (essential)
• Prior experience in cosmetics, fragrance, and/or beauty (advantageous)
• Previous sales and promotional training (advantageous)

Technical Skills:

• Computer literate — able to work with retail management systems, understand stock reports, and perform basic data entry (essential)
• Understanding of stock reports, sales targets, and commission calculations (essential)
• Experience managing expired and damaged stock and maintaining stock rotation (advantageous)
• Stock management experience in a retail environment (advantageous)
