Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for experienced Casual Cashiers to join their Chartwell Store. The role involves providing exceptional customer service at the point of sale, ensuring a world-class shopping experience. The cashier will be responsible for recording transactions accurately according to company policies and procedures, with a strong focus on eliminating fraud risk.

Essential Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric
• Minimum of 6 months’ experience in cashier/till operations
• Computer literate (MS Office)
• Sound numerical skills
• Strong command of the English language
• Basic customer service skills
• Willingness and ability to work retail hours

Key Responsibilities

• Adhere to Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures
• Establish a professional relationship with customers
• Report customer complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management
• Monitor customer turnover and awareness of current sales and promotions
• Ensure a secure environment by following all security protocols
• Perform cash flow management and ensure cash is placed in drop safe as per SOPs
• Process various payments (cash, bank cards, vouchers, etc.)
• Handle loyalty card transactions (e.g., Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply)
• Ensure all items are properly scanned and paid for, including outgoing stock and scripts
• Maintain the confidentiality of daily takings and discuss only with management
• Address queries regarding store merchandise
• Report suspicious behavior to management and adhere to security policies

Competencies

• Essential:

  • Knowledge of operating cash registers and maintaining cash drawers
  • Strong command of English (written and oral)
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Presentable appearance and emotional intelligence
  • Social awareness, accountability, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong time management and analytical skills

• Advantageous:

  • Knowledge of a third additional language

Special Conditions of Employment

• Willing and able to work retail hours
• Reliable transport and/or reside in close proximity to the store
• South African citizen
• Clear credit and criminal records
