About the Role
We are looking for a hardworking and reliable Receiving General Assistant to join our warehouse and distribution team in Johannesburg South, Gauteng. This role is crucial to ensuring that all incoming goods are received accurately, inspected thoroughly, and recorded correctly in the system.
As a Receiving Assistant, you’ll play a hands-on role in the warehouse by unloading goods, verifying quantities, and checking for damages or discrepancies. You’ll also help maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment while ensuring all stock is handled efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
As a Receiving General Assistant, your main duties and daily tasks will include:
1. Receiving and Inspecting Goods

Unload goods from delivery vehicles manually or with the use of a forklift or pallet jack (if licensed).

Check that quantities received match the delivery note and purchase order details.

Visually inspect all delivered goods for damages, defects, or incorrect items.

Report any discrepancies or damaged goods immediately to the Inbound Supervisor or Clerk.

Conduct temperature checks for perishable and refrigerated items in accordance with Food Safety Management Standards (FSMS).
2. Inventory and Documentation

Record all goods received accurately in the warehouse system or on manual checklists.

Track stock movements using a handheld scanner or inventory software.

Update supervisors on stock shortages, damaged stock, or delays in deliveries.

Support inventory audits by ensuring all received goods are documented correctly.
3. Warehouse Operations

Handle physical work such as lifting, stacking, and moving products safely.

Ensure all goods are stored in the correct designated areas to optimize space utilization.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment at all times.

Assist with stock rotation to ensure older items are dispatched first.

Follow all company health and safety policies and warehouse procedures.
4. Communication and Teamwork

Work collaboratively with other team members in receiving, picking, and dispatching areas.

Communicate effectively with supervisors to report issues or suggest improvements.

Provide assistance during busy periods, including public holidays or weekends.

Demonstrate a positive, can-do attitude and strong team spirit to support warehouse efficiency.
Required Qualifications and Experience
To qualify for this role, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

Education: Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification.

Experience: Previous experience as a Receiving Assistant, Receiving Clerk, General Assistant, or Warehouse Clerk.

Location: Must reside within 25 km of Johannesburg South, Gauteng.

Record: Clear criminal record is essential.

Physical Requirements: Must be physically fit to handle manual work, including lifting and moving items safely.
Preferred Qualifications and Added Advantages
While not mandatory, the following will be advantageous and may improve your chances of selection:

At least 1 year of experience in a warehouse or distribution center as a picker, checker, or receiving assistant.

Valid forklift, reach truck, or pallet jack license.

Previous experience in the FMCG, retail, or logistics sectors.

Knowledge of inventory control systems, scanning equipment, and warehouse management software.

Familiarity with Food Safety Standards and stock handling processes.

South African citizenship or a valid work permit.

Candidates aged between 25 and 40 are preferred.

Team: You’ll report directly to the Inbound Supervisor or Manager and work closely with other warehouse staff.
