About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and reliable Cashier to join our team in Durbanville, Western Cape. This role plays a key part in ensuring that our customers enjoy a smooth, friendly, and efficient shopping experience. As a Cashier, you will handle all customer transactions accurately, maintain excellent customer service, and uphold the company’s reputation for professionalism and trustworthiness.

Key Responsibilities

As a Cashier, your main duties and responsibilities will include:

1. Point of Sale (POS) Operations

  • Operate an electronic point-of-sale system accurately and efficiently.

  • Scan or manually enter product codes for all items being purchased.

  • Handle multiple payment methods, including cash, debit cards, credit cards, and digital payments.

  • Ensure all transactions are processed correctly and receipts are issued.

  • Balance your cash drawer at the end of every shift to maintain accurate cash flow.

2. Customer Service

  • Greet customers warmly as they approach the till.

  • Maintain a friendly, positive, and professional attitude throughout each interaction.

  • Address customer queries and complaints in a polite, efficient manner.

  • Uphold the company’s commitment to exceptional service standards.

3. Cash Handling and Reconciliation

  • Count and verify cash at the start and end of every shift.

  • Handle all payment transactions with accuracy and integrity.

  • Ensure that the correct amount of change is given to customers.

  • Report any discrepancies, shortages, or overages to the Till Supervisor immediately.

4. Store and Till Maintenance

  • Keep the checkout area neat, clean, and organised at all times.

  • Ensure the till station is stocked with bags, receipt paper, pens, and other supplies.

  • Replace receipt rolls or till paper promptly when required.

  • Adhere to company hygiene and safety standards.

5. Product and Promotion Knowledge

  • Maintain knowledge of all products on sale, including product codes and prices.

  • Stay informed about ongoing promotions, discounts, and loyalty programs.

  • Upsell or suggest complementary products to customers where appropriate.

6. Communication and Teamwork

  • Collaborate effectively with the store team, supervisors, and other cashiers.

  • Report system issues, price discrepancies, or stock shortages to management.

  • Support colleagues during busy trading hours to ensure smooth store operations.


Required Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Education: Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification.

  • Experience: Proven experience working as a Cashier in a retail, supermarket, or fast-paced environment.

  • Location: Must reside within 25 km of Durbanville, Western Cape.

  • Criminal Record: Clear criminal record is mandatory.


Preferred Attributes

While not compulsory, the following will give you a competitive advantage:

  • South African citizenship or valid work permit.

  • Candidates aged 18 to 65 years old.

  • Previous experience using electronic POS systems.

  • Familiarity with cash-up and float reconciliation procedures.

  • Experience in customer-facing roles in retail or grocery environments.

  • Pace: High-energy, customer-driven environment requiring attentiveness and accuracy.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, handle small items, and manage cash transactions efficiently.
