Multi-Skilled Maintenance Opportunity at Bidvest Facilities Management

Bidvest Facilities Management is currently recruiting two (2) Handyman professionals to join its BFM Operations 1 division on a permanent basis in Midrand, Gauteng. This opportunity is ideal for experienced, hands-on maintenance professionals who are versatile, technically inclined, and committed to delivering high-quality facilities support across multiple trades.

About the Role

The Handyman will be responsible for performing planned, preventative, and emergency maintenance across client facilities in line with service level agreements (SLAs) and company standards. The role requires a broad range of technical skills, including basic electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, and general building maintenance. The successful candidates will support artisans on major works while independently managing minor repairs and maintenance tasks.


Key Responsibilities

General Maintenance and Repairs

The Handyman will execute tasks according to issued job cards and work orders, ensuring all maintenance activities are completed timeously and to quality standards. This includes investigating equipment malfunctions, performing evaluations, and restoring equipment to full functionality while complying with client and company requirements.


Electrical, Plumbing, and Mechanical Support

Responsibilities include carrying out minor electrical repairs and servicing on equipment and appliances, as well as minor plumbing repairs in accordance with SLAs. The role also involves servicing and repairing fast doors and roller doors, conducting inspections, and reporting on the condition of access control systems and fire equipment.


Office Movements and Building Maintenance

The Handyman will assist with office movement-related tasks such as installing and relocating furniture, shop fitting, repairing doors, locks, handles, and windows, replacing ceiling and carpet tiles, and performing general painting work. Maintaining safe, functional, and presentable facilities is a core responsibility of the role.


Support to Artisans and Stakeholders

The role includes assisting qualified artisans with major repairs and maintenance services when required. The Handyman must provide regular feedback to the Facilities Manager, Service Manager, Building Manager, or Commercial Coordinator on work progress and restoration status, ensuring clear communication at all times.


Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • N3 Technical qualification (Electrical or Mechanical)

  • Matric (Senior Certificate)

  • Valid South African Driver’s Licence

  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience performing handyman or general maintenance tasks

  • Basic training in hand tools, electrical, and mechanical equipment

  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act)

  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
