Brights Hardware is recruiting a dedicated and detail-oriented Merchandiser – Building Department to join its Plattekloof branch on a permanent basis in the Western Cape. This entry-level opportunity is ideal for a retail-focused individual with an eye for presentation, organisation, and customer experience within a busy hardware retail environment.
The role plays a key part in ensuring that building department stock is attractively displayed, accurately priced, easily accessible, and maintained to a high standard, contributing directly to customer satisfaction, repeat visits, and store profitability.
About the Role
The Merchandiser – Building Department is responsible for maintaining professional stock presentation across the shop floor. This includes pricing accuracy, shelf layout, promotional displays, housekeeping, and adherence to Brights merchandising standards.
The role requires consistency, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure while supporting a pleasant and efficient shopping experience for customers.
Key Responsibilities
Stock Presentation and Merchandising Standards
The successful candidate will ensure that all stock is neatly packed, categorised, and displayed in a professional manner, making products easily accessible to customers. The Block System must be applied consistently when merchandising stock.
Pricing Accuracy and Shelf Talkers
Responsibilities include ensuring that all items are correctly priced and correspond with shelf talkers. Shelf talkers must be clean, correctly positioned to the far left of products, and accurately reflect pricing information.
Stock Transfers and Documentation
The role requires checking that transfer numbers correspond correctly with page transfer numbers, including accurate branch details, dates, and documentation.
Shop Floor Standards and Housekeeping
The merchandiser must ensure that aisles and shop floors are clean, clear, and accessible. All hazards and products stored under shelves must be removed, and general housekeeping standards maintained at all times.
Promotional Displays and Visual Merchandising
The role includes assisting with the development of promotional and display plans for approval, obtaining props and accessories, and building in-store displays to maximise internal advertising and product visibility.
Stock Control and Operational Support
The merchandiser will participate in perpetual stocktakes, maintain a clean work area, and perform any additional work-related tasks as delegated by management.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates applying for this role must meet one of the following criteria:

Grade 12 (Matric)
OR -
Three completed Intercept courses equating to a minimum of 120 credits
OR -
No Matric, but completion of Retail Operations Leadership and/or NQF 3 Stock Management (minimum 54 credits)
Additional requirements include:

Minimum 1 year experience in a similar role or entry-level stock exposure

Completion of Brights Induction (Service Excellence)

In-house entry-level merchandising standards training

Basic product range knowledge
