Position Overview

An exciting opportunity exists for a Principal Engineer – Water (Pr.Eng) to join a reputable consulting engineering firm’s Cape Town office. This senior role is ideal for an experienced civil engineer with deep technical expertise in water and sanitation engineering, combined with strong leadership and project delivery capability.

The successful candidate will provide strategic and technical leadership across major water infrastructure projects while contributing to the growth and excellence of the water engineering discipline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver complex water and sanitation engineering projects
  • Provide specialist technical input on water supply, wastewater, and sanitation systems
  • Manage multidisciplinary engineering teams and mentor junior staff
  • Oversee project planning, budgets, schedules, and quality assurance
  • Review and approve technical designs, reports, and specifications
  • Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards and legislation
  • Liaise with clients, authorities, and key project stakeholders
  • Support business development, proposals, and tender submissions
  • Provide leadership within the water engineering division

Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • BEng or BSc Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum 12 years’ professional experience in the water sector
  • Professionally registered as Pr.Eng with the
    Engineering Council of South Africa
  • At least 5 years’ experience as a registered professional engineer
  • Specialist technical expertise in water and sanitation engineering
  • Strong project management and leadership skills
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Own reliable transport

Remuneration & Benefits

  • Approximate salary: R1,200,000 per annum (negotiable based on experience)
