Position Overview

An exciting senior opportunity exists for a Principal Engineer – Water (Pr.Eng) to join a reputable consulting engineering firm’s Pretoria office. This role is ideal for an experienced civil engineer with deep technical expertise in water and sanitation engineering, combined with strong leadership and project management capability.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, oversee complex water infrastructure projects, and contribute to strategic growth within the water engineering discipline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver complex water and sanitation engineering projects
  • Provide specialist technical input across water supply, wastewater, and sanitation systems
  • Manage multidisciplinary project teams and mentor junior engineers
  • Oversee project planning, execution, budgets, and schedules
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, legislation, and best practices
  • Review and approve designs, reports, and technical documentation
  • Liaise with clients, authorities, and key stakeholders
  • Contribute to business development and proposal preparation
  • Provide strategic leadership within the water engineering division

Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • BEng or BSc Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum 12 years’ professional experience in the water sector
  • Professionally registered as Pr.Eng with the
    Engineering Council of South Africa
  • At least 5 years’ experience as a registered professional engineer
  • Specialist technical expertise in water and sanitation engineering
  • Strong project management and leadership skills
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Own reliable transport
