We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Technician to join our Thabazimbi branch. This role is ideal for a hands-on individual with strong technical expertise in agricultural equipment maintenance and a passion for delivering exceptional service to customers in the farming community.
Purpose of the Role
The Technician will be responsible for repairing, maintaining, and servicing agricultural and related equipment to ensure optimal functionality and customer satisfaction. The role involves performing mechanical work on tractors and farming machinery, adhering to safety and quality standards, and maintaining accurate service documentation.
This position requires a motivated individual who can work independently or as part of a team while maintaining excellent customer relationships and upholding AFGRI’s reputation for reliability and technical excellence.
Minimum Education and Training Requirements
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following educational requirements:

N2 Qualified Technician Certificate (Mechanical, Electrical, or Agricultural Engineering focus preferred).

Completion of a recognized Apprenticeship Programme, preferably with John Deere equipment training.
Additional manufacturer training or certification in agricultural machinery maintenance will be considered advantageous.
Required Work Experience
-
Minimum of 3 years’ hands-on experience working with John Deere equipment (tractors, harvesters, planters, etc.).

Demonstrated ability to perform repairs, maintenance, diagnostics, and fault finding on agricultural machinery.

Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
-
Previous experience in a dealership, agricultural workshop, or farm machinery service center will be an advantage.
Key Performance Areas
As a Technician at AFGRI Thabazimbi, you will perform a variety of essential duties, including:
1. Equipment Maintenance and Repairs
-
Carry out diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on a wide range of agricultural equipment.

Service and maintain tractors, combines, balers, sprayers, and other related farm machinery.
-
Identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic issues efficiently to minimize downtime.
-
Ensure that all maintenance work meets the manufacturer’s specifications and AFGRI’s quality standards.
2. Customer Relationship Management
-
Build and maintain long-term relationships with customers by providing excellent service and technical advice.

Ensure customer queries and complaints are attended to promptly and professionally within the prescribed turnaround times.

Offer expert guidance on the correct operation, care, and maintenance of equipment to reduce breakdowns and extend machine lifespan.
3. Documentation and Reporting
-
Accurately complete and update job cards, recording parts used, time spent, and work performed.

Maintain up-to-date service records for audit and warranty purposes.

Report recurring mechanical issues or potential product defects to the Service Manager for review.
4. Health, Safety, and Compliance
-
Ensure strict adherence to health and safety regulations within the workshop and on client sites.

Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly stored after use.

Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as prescribed by AFGRI’s safety policy.

Immediately report any incidents, accidents, or unsafe conditions to management.
5. Continuous Improvement

Participate in ongoing technical training and development to stay updated with the latest machinery advancements.

Contribute ideas to improve workshop efficiency, service quality, and customer satisfaction.

Technical Knowledge and Competencies

Valid driver’s license (Code 8 or higher).

Sound knowledge of agricultural equipment repair and maintenance.

Understanding of John Deere diagnostic systems and tools.

Competent in basic computer usage for record-keeping and reporting.

Work Environment
