Site Maintenance and Technical Support Opportunity at Bidvest Facilities Management

Bidvest Facilities Management is recruiting a dedicated and technically skilled Field Technician to join its Telecommunications division on a permanent basis in Cape Town, Western Cape. This role is suited to a hands-on maintenance professional with solid experience in preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance within a telecommunications infrastructure environment.

The position plays a critical role in maintaining assigned client sites in line with agreed scopes of work, service level agreements, and quality standards, while supporting the broader business maintenance strategy and client service expectations.


About the Role

The Field Technician is responsible for maintaining non-network infrastructure across assigned sites, including air-conditioning systems, electrical plants, and general building infrastructure. The role focuses on ensuring that all maintenance activities are executed safely, efficiently, and within agreed timeframes, while maintaining compliance with health, safety, and quality requirements.

This position requires a strong technical foundation, the ability to work independently in the field, and the discipline to follow structured maintenance schedules. The successful candidate will also provide technical support to Regional Managers, Portfolio Managers, and Junior Portfolio Managers, contributing to operational continuity and service excellence.


Key Responsibilities

Site Maintenance and Service Delivery

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining assigned sites according to the approved Scope of Work and any site-specific instructions or standards provided by the client or Bidvest Facilities Management. This includes driving planned preventative maintenance (PPM), corrective maintenance (CPM), and emergency maintenance activities to ensure site functionality and compliance.

All maintenance work must be completed in line with agreed procedures, quality standards, and service level agreements.


Preventive Maintenance Targets and Performance

The Field Technician is required to meet daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance targets, ensuring that scheduled work is completed within allocated timeframes. Accurate execution of maintenance plans supports operational efficiency and ensures that sites are restored to standard within SLA requirements.

Adherence to quality requirements as stipulated in the scope of work is essential to maintaining consistent service delivery.


Tools, Equipment, and Vehicle Management

The role includes responsibility for ensuring that all tools, vehicles, test equipment, laptops, and cellphones are properly maintained, safe for use, and recorded on the appropriate registers. Regular checks must be conducted to ensure equipment remains in good working condition and compliant with safety standards.

This responsibility is critical to ensuring safe and effective field operations.


Health, Safety, and Compliance

The Field Technician must strictly comply with Bidvest Facilities Management health and safety requirements as well as client-specific site safety standards. This includes adherence to access procedures, work permits, and site protocols.

Any unsafe work situations or hazards identified on-site must be reported immediately to management to ensure corrective action and risk mitigation.


Operational Communication and Reporting

Accurate and timeous communication forms a key part of this role. The Field Technician must ensure that access procedures and work status updates are completed in accordance with agreed processes. All instructions provided by management must be followed, and deviations or challenges encountered on-site must be escalated appropriately.

The technician is also responsible for ensuring that company communication tools, including email and company-issued mobile phones, remain operational at all times. Calls must be answered when on duty, and returned as soon as possible when not immediately available.


Team Support and Supervision

The role includes managing an assistant on a daily basis to ensure optimal team performance. Any performance issues or deviations must be reported to management. The Field Technician is also expected to identify opportunities for site enhancements, obtain the necessary authorisation, and implement approved improvements in line with operational requirements.


Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Matric / Grade 12

  • National N4 – Electrical Engineering Trade Theory

  • Electrician (26D), Section 28 Electrician, or Wireman’s License

  • Refrigeration Trade Test (advantageous but not required)

  • Valid Code 10 EB Driver’s License (4×4 and advanced driving experience advantageous)

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in PPM (Preventive Maintenance) and CPM (Corrective Maintenance)

  • Experience within the GSM and Core Network Telecommunications environment


Technical Skills and Knowledge

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong capability in:
