Position Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Post-Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for its Kyalami store in Midrand. This permanent opportunity is ideal for a registered pharmacy professional passionate about patient care, accuracy, and compliance within a fast-paced retail pharmacy environment.

The successful candidate will provide pharmaceutical care by supporting patients’ medicine-related needs while operating strictly within legal, ethical, and professional standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines
  • Support the compounding, preparation, and manufacturing of non-sterile medicines according to SOPs
  • Assist with re-packaging, distribution, and stock control of Schedule 1–5 medicines
  • Support ordering of medicines and scheduled substances up to Schedule 6 as authorised
  • Assist with prescription preparation, labelling, and supply following pharmacist interpretation
  • Accurately interpret prescriptions in line with SAPC and legal requirements
  • Capture and verify patient and script details accurately on the system
  • Ensure correct picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication
  • Advise patients on correct medicine usage and potential interactions
  • Assist with medical aid claims, authorisations, and cost explanations
  • Process and correct rejected medical aid claims
  • Ensure chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication authorisations
  • Maintain and manage customer profiles and system updates
  • Receive and merchandise dispensary stock according to FEFO principles
  • Report low or out-of-stock items and stock discrepancies
  • Facilitate bi-annual stock takes
  • Maintain strict stock, cash, and asset control
  • Promote health education and patient wellness initiatives

Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council
  • Experience working on Unisolv
  • Computer literacy (MS Office)
  • Strong numerical skills
  • Strong command of English and a second language
  • Willingness to work retail hours

Advantageous:

  • Knowledge of retail and FMCG operations
  • Third additional language
  • Experience with SAP and e-Scripting
  • Knowledge of family planning, complementary medicine, and drug therapies
